A Year Later.... It's a Different World

2020 Fall Open Studios... Thank you to everyone who visited our virtual booth!

Our Fall Open Studios this year looked a bit different due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.  Since we couldn't throw open our studio doors to the public, we participated in two online virtual booth events through Hunters Point Shipyard Artists (Sunday, September 27) and ArtSpan SFOS (Thursday, October 8).

Going forward... While we cannot allow large public gatherings at our studios, we are still able to schedule individual one-on-one appointments to visit our workshop with health and safety protocols in place.  Masks are required, and only individuals from the same household can visit at one time.

Golden Gate Bridge steel is this artist’s career. What happens when it runs out?

Rick Bulan rests his hand on a worn 12-foot chunk of steel in his San Francisco warehouse workshop, ticking off the items he imagines turning it into.

Maybe two headboards, a few coffee tables and a bunch of business card holders. Or perhaps a dining table and lots of jewelry.

The red steel will be sandblasted, raced on, cut and welded into ordinary pieces of furniture, but its origin is unmistakable — the Golden Gate Bridge.

“When I make stuff from it, you can tell where it comes from. It’s very distinct,” Bulan said. “No other bridge has that.”

If you missed us this Spring, mark your calendars to visit us in the Fall:

Weekend 2 - SF Open Studios - Fall 2019

Saturday, October 19 - 11am to 6pm 

Sunday, October 20 - 11am to 6pm

Our Islais Creek Studios workshop will be open to the public this Fall during ArtSpan's SF Open Studios, a month-long, city-wide event that takes place over four consecutive weekends.  Our location will be open during Weekend 2 of the event, October 19-20, which includes the Bayview, and Portola neighborhoods.  (Please Note: Islais Creek Studios will NOT be open the same weekend as Hunter's Point Shipyard, Weekend 1, October 12-13).

Additionally, a visit to our workshop is available by appointment any time of the year.
